Updated December 21, 2018 17:33:11The NRL is now back in the spotlight after a controversial decision last year to award a $20,000 bonus to players for participating in the Super Betting League.
As the NRL prepares to kick off its 2017/18 season on Friday, there is speculation the NRL is also exploring the possibility of an official betting line for the AFL.
There are no NRL-based betting lines available for AFL bettors yet, but there is precedent for the league to consider a new betting line in the past.
In 2016, the AFL introduced a new line, the bet365, which was created by a partnership between the AFL and Bet365 and it was designed to give AFL players an easier way to bet on games that weren’t currently played.
This was before the NRL had its own line.
But in 2018, the NRL’s betting commission rejected the NRL Bet365’s proposal to change the NRL betting line and instead opted for the bet360.
The NRL was also criticised for not considering an official line from AFLbet.com.au and instead, decided to focus on its own bet365.
The Bet365 line was approved in the 2016/17 season, but the NRL decided to abandon the line in 2019 due to the lack of interest from AFL betmakers.
So, where do we stand now?
We still don’t know how much the NRL will give to bet365 and whether the NRL can create its own betting line.
But the NRL has been actively exploring the idea of an AFL-based bet365 line for a while now.
The AFL is likely to launch its own NRL betting site in 2019 and the NRL could announce its own official line as well.
As we look ahead to the 2018/19 season, the best bets in the AFL are likely to be on the AFLbet365 and AFLBet.comau.
